COLLECTION SPOTLIGHT: World War Two Victory Medal

This November, we are spotlighting our World War Two Victory Medal. Given to both United States service members and members of the armed forces under the Government of the Philippine Islands who were in service between December 7, 1941, and December 31, 1946, this medal commemorates the signing of Proclamation 2714 by President Harry Truman, legally bringing to an end the fighting of World War Two. Characterized by a ribbon of one red stripe and two white stripes flanked by two double rainbows and a bronze medal, it is both a symbol of the U.S.’s values of freedom and liberty, as well as an homage to the victory medal of the First World War.
