Officer's Country on the USS Stewart

At the Galveston Naval Museum, we’re carefully staging three officer quarters in Officer's Country on the USS Stewart to give visitors a glimpse into the daily routines of WWII naval leadership. Each room will represent a different role Navigation, Communications, and Engineering filled with the tools, books, and personal items you’d expect from officers living and working at sea. While these rooms won’t match their exact original locations onboard, they’re designed to feel authentic, immersive, and full of character.

To protect our collection while still delivering a rich experience, the exhibit will feature high-quality reproduction items instead of original artifacts. From recreated navigation charts and radio logs to cleverly fabricated books and personal gear, every detail is designed with both realism and durability in mind. You’ll see everything from sextants and coded manuals to neatly made bunks with Navy-issued linens—capturing both the professional and personal sides of life at sea. It’s a behind-the-scenes look at how history is preserved, recreated, and shared—making Officer’s Country a must-see!
